At The Cottage, we believe that introducing children to new languages and cultures from an early age helps to broaden their horizons and build valuable life skills. Over the past few months, our children have been learning Spanish as part of their weekly curriculum, and this week, we celebrated the completion of their course with certificates recognising their fantastic efforts!
The Spanish lessons were designed to make language learning fun, interactive, and engaging for our little ones. Each week, the children explored a new theme, from greetings and numbers to colours, animals, and food. Through songs, games, and role-play, they practiced key Spanish words and phrases, building their confidence and language skills.
By the end of the course, the children could confidently say simple phrases like “hola” (hello), “adiós” (goodbye), and “gracias” (thank you). They also learned to count to ten, name their favourite animals, and identify colours – all while having lots of fun!
The Spanish lessons tied beautifully into the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, supporting several key areas of development:
To mark the end of their Spanish journey, each child received a special certificate celebrating their hard work and dedication. This moment of recognition was a proud and rewarding experience for the children, boosting their confidence and giving them a sense of accomplishment.
The children proudly shared their certificates with friends and family, showcasing the skills they had developed. This celebration highlighted the importance of acknowledging effort and perseverance, valuable lessons that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Introducing a new language in early childhood is about more than just learning words; it’s about building life skills that will stay with children as they grow. Spanish lessons have:
These skills will support the children not only in future language learning but also in other areas of education and life.
We are incredibly proud of our little learners for embracing Spanish with such enthusiasm and determination. Their weekly lessons have been filled with laughter, curiosity, and growth, and we’re thrilled to see how much they’ve accomplished.
As they move forward, we hope this introduction to Spanish inspires a lifelong love of learning and a curiosity about the world.
