The ultimate value of The Cottage is to cultivate an environment that replicates the warmth and hospitality of a home.
We aim to instil a sense of security and trust for parents regarding the exceptional level of care and learning opportunities provided to their children, allowing them to reach their fullest potential. Our aim is to help children become active learners, developing a healthy approach to building the foundations that will benefit them in later education and life.
Understanding that children flourish best in environments catered to their individual needs, here at Bedford St we have three separate buildings dedicated to different age groups. This ensures that we provide age-appropriate activities and care.
Transparency and communication are at the forefront of our commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for your child. We believe in fostering a collaborative partnership with parents, and our policies reflect our dedication to maintaining high standards of care, education and security.
Parents have access to a development app Famly that keeps you informed throughout the day, has an instant messaging feature for those on the go, and provides regular observations and assessments, keeping you in the loop of every step of your child’s progress.
My little girl has attended The Cottage Nursery in Derby since she was 15 months old and I couldn't recommend this nursery enough! The facilities and environments that she has been able to explore are fantastic! She has just come home with a Christmas folder full of beautiful artwork and creations. Every morning she walks in happy and smiling and it is rare that I ever pick her up and she is sad, or any of the children for that matter. I truly would recommend this nursery to anyone.
My son loved his time at The Cottage and I can’t recommend it highly enough. The facilities are fantastic, safe, clean and well organised. The people who work here are genuinely caring, nurturing and committed to finding innovative ways to build learning into play. The special events such as the Positive Ponies visiting were very, very exciting! Importantly, I observed all the children being celebrated for who they are and every child being respected as an individual.
My daughter has been to both The Cottage Day Nursery at Mickleover and on currently at Bedford Street and both have been fantastic! My little girl loves it there, they are very caring and have the kids out in the garden with the rabbit and chickens as much as possible. The food selection is great, and the nursery is clean and well looked after. I would always highly recommend either of the nurseries.
Our son has settled in amazingly since starting! He has always gone in happy and smiling apart from when he was feeling a little unwell. He adores all the staff in babies and toddlers and the office staff that help out in the evenings. We absolutely love the nursery just as much as our son does. All staff at the nursery are brilliant, and it is always clean. It takes a lot off my mind knowing how much our son is loved and cared for!

A fantastic nursery that has been great over the past 2 years. All the staff have been wonderful, fostering close key working relationships but also in the wider team. They worked with us on dietary needs due to allergies, looking for suitable alternatives so he didn't miss out. Great support and feedback throughout. The management are visible and accessible and we've always felt comfortable asking questions.
